AHS AMERICAN HOME SHIELD HOME SYSTEM TIPS American Home Shield, the insurance provider for Coldwell Banker’s Home Protection Plan offers routine maintenance tips for all the home systems.

Here are some Home Care Tips for a Happy Home offered by AHS American Home Shield:

AIR CONDITIONING: 

·      Problem with Water leaking into the walls or ceiling?  Make sure the drain line is not restricted and condensation drains freely

·      Does the unit constantly cycle on and off?  Call a qualified professional to clean the evaporator unit and fan

·      Air Conditioner doesn’t make air cool enough?  Keep the area around the exterior condensing unit clear of leaves, bushes and other obstruction to ensure adequate air flow.  Clean or replace the air filter.  Create shade for the unit.  Secure the insulation firmly to the suction line (large line) and replace any worn-out insulation.

HEATING SYSTEM:

·      There is no heat at all?  Check for blown fuses or a tripped circuit breaker.  Replace the drive belt.  Call a qualified professional.

·      Your rooms are not warm enough?  Replace the filter.  Clean the registers and remove obstructions blocking the register.  Seal the leaking ducts with duct tape.  Call a qualified professional.

·      Soot collects in your house?  Replace the filter.  Call a qualified professional to clean the system.

·      The blower makes unusual noises when the burner is off?  Tighten the setscrews of the pulley.  Replace the blower mounts.  Replace the drive belt.  Adjust the belt tension.  Call a qualified professional.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:

·      No electricity to an outlet?  Check circuit breaker box.  Try plugging in another item to that outlet to check if it is working.  Check all other outlets.  Call a qualified professional.

·      To help prevent power outages, make sure there are not too many appliances plugged into one circuit.
 

PLUMBING SYSTEM:

·      Little or no water from the faucet or shower head? Check to insure water shut off valves are completely open.  Remove aerators and clean them as needed.  Call a qualified professional.
